The Shakopee Police Department invites young men and women, ages 15-20, who are interested in law enforcement to join the Police Explorers. The Shakopee Police Explorers help students to build qualities such as leadership, citizenship and professionalism through hands-on experience.
During the school year, the Police Explorers meet most Tuesdays from 4 – 6:30 p.m. at the Shakopee Police Department. They receive training in a variety of topics including traffic stops, domestic violence intervention, bomb threats, traffic accident reconstruction and burglary response. The Explorers also assist the Police Department at city events like bicycle rodeos, Derby Days, Night to Unite, career fairs and more. Explorers can put their skills to the test when they attend the Police Explorers state competition in Rochester, Minn.
