The increased development and spread of diseases such as Dutch Elm Disease and Oak Wilt have impacted trees and woodlands within the City of Shakopee. Diseased trees within the City are managed according to the Shade Tree Disease Control and Prevention ordinance (Sec. 10.70). Diseased trees within City property such as parks, open space areas, and road right-of-way are managed according to the ordinance. The cost for the removal and stump grinding of these diseased trees is paid by the City. Diseased trees identified and marked on private property are the responsibility of property owner.
Currently, a MN ReLeaf Grant has been obtained from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to aid in the management of Oak Wilt within the City. The Oak Wilt Suppression Program will continue with this financial aid into 2007. Please contact the city's Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Director at (952) 233 - 9514, if Oak Wilt or Dutch Elm Disease is suspected in your area.
